Hello everyone
First of all, let me express my gratitude for the responses to the last blog post. As always, they are amusing and reassuring. We rely on the support displayed by such posts. Thank you again.
I’ve had the leg just over a week now and it has been interesting to say the least. I’ve been able to progress to wearing it for 4 hours during the day, and walking inside (still crutch assisted) with it for 30 minutes to an hour. I’m somewhat surprised at the rate at which Short Round is getting used to the new attachment. The hardest part of having the prosthetic is putting weight on it. I have to eventually get to the point where I can put full weight on it. I had another appointment on Tuesday and it’s already time for a new socket. My residual limb has increased in mass since the first casting a few weeks ago and the current socket is too small in diameter. So the prosthetist took another casting and I’ll be getting the new socket within two weeks. I still can use the current socket; it’s just not as comfortable – kind of like a pair of shoes that are too small, but are still too awesome to throw out.
With regard to my tumors, we are in a holding pattern until we get more information. I have a CT scan scheduled for Monday too look at my lungs. My oncologist will go over it with us on Tuesday and we’ll decide then whether to continue with chemo. If so, we’ll start another round on Tuesday. If the scan shows the tumors are continuing to respond to the treatment and are still shrinking, we’ll go on with chemo. If the tumors have stopped responding, then we won’t do the treatment. As much as I dread it, we are keeping our fingers crossed for continued tumor response…grrrr. I’ll be honest though, this chemotherapy thing is not a whole lot of fun like I was told.
I’ll keep this one short. I have to get back to walking laps round the house. Thanks again everyone for the support. Have a great weekend and I’ll post with the results we get on Tuesday.
Hunter
Awsome,,,, on the new leg. The last post wouldn’t let me respond….. Our fingers are crossed too. But, PRAYER seems to be working, sooo we will keep up w/ those 😉 Wish there was something else we could do. We love you. Kiss the boys for us.
Great news Hunter.
Great news Hunter! Your determination is inspiring. We are rooting for you!
We are still looking forward to your arrival here! Can’t wait to hear you tell your cadets about losing your leg in the war…the war with cancer, that is.
Great to hear you are pushing Short Round. We’re all rooting for you back here back at DTRA. God Bless
– John
Hahahaha!! I could totally relate about the shoe description — OUCH Hunter! So sorry you have to go through so much! It seems like it’s never ending – but our support is just the same – never ending! Looking forward to results next week. Hope your father is doing well!!
Glad to hear you are up and around. Hugs from all of us.
Constantly amazed and inspired by you. Keep up the great attitude. I will continue to pray that you and you r family maintain your strength and sense of humor. You are such a credit to your parents who I love and respect so much!
You, Jenn and the boys are always in my prayers. Although I haven’t responded in awhile, we are always thinking of how things are going. I had major surgery back on Jan. 28th and I went from the ER into the hospital and then surgery, so unexpected. Hunter, I thought alot about you and your courage and calmed myself by reminding myself, I could have the same type of courage you have. I am now 5 wks post op, with about 2 to 3 more weeks of recovering. It was a major surgery but the outcome was so positive that I now feel truly blessed. I know for sure all the prayers that are said, are heard. Your are an amazing man and I wish you all the best, with the upcoming visits and reports.
I just left your older post, now I am stepping into your newest one! So do I understand that Short Round has developed some since wearing your new addition and that is why you have to have another socket? If that is the case, you will be keeping your prosthetic doc busy. You are so disciplined that you will be building up muscle mass fast! Rock on, brother! Sending love and light!
Hunter,
It is great to hear that you are making progress with the prosthetic. That is very exciting.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family as you await the results of the upcoming scan. Keep up your inspiring outlook!
All the best!
Chad

Prayers for grrrrrr….continued response to chemo!!! Short round will have to show his “true grit” over the next few adaptations/ fitting for the socket. Hunter, you continue to astound me. Gratitude to you and your family for your solidarity, your strength, your inspiration!
God’s Grace and Peace,
Dee
Prayers your way as always. Keep on fighting — let me know when you are ready to run and need someone to run with you. I’ll make the trip anytime!
Hunter,
well, that’s a new one: “My socket is too small for me.” I’ve tried that with the shrinking waistbands of my trousers, but no sympathy on my end. I know you will whip Short Round into shape and be bounding about sooner than any of us expect. You’re too stubborn and logical to allow any obstacles to success! That’s what we love about you, brother. Me and a few fellas from CXC are gathering in your honor this coming weekend in VAB to sonder about a race course from 5-20 some odd K (reminds me of a King of Queens episode when the UPS dude signed up for a 10K and his wife asked, do you even know how long a K is?) … anyway, we love you and we aspire to be as strong as you and yours and hope you get a few breaks along the way. There’s a few toasts of green beer upcoming to Hunter Lindsey, the best dang _____ and friend ever. Cheers!
Mike
oh, and a few damsels as well, not just the fellers!
Shirts are in. They look great! We will be running with them this weekend as Mike stated. I have two for you and Jenn. I can always get more if you or your family wants them. I’ll send them and the pics after the race. Zip and Jennifer are running the Marathon. Mike and I are running the half-marathon. Jenifer, Reb, my wife and daughter are running the 8K. Leigh may try running some of the 8k but she just had an appedectomy. Mike, Zip and I are shaving our heads also. You have a lot of people here that love and admire you! Amanda Meadows, Heather Eastlack, Ryan Roberts, Rick Hill, Fred Coppell and Dan Grady also bought shirts. Waiting patiently to hear about your results from yesterday. Sully
